University of Science and Technology, within the framework of its initiative to support Ahmed Gasim Hospital, carried out the third campaign to sanitize environment inside the hospital in Khartoum North, with the participation of 32 students and graduates. The campaign aimed at renovating 3 wards for children and dialysis patients, as well as maintaining 6 air conditioners, landscaping gardens, and planting a variety of shady and fruitful trees. UST signed a memorandum of understanding with Ahmed Qasim Hospital early last year to adopt and support an initiative for rehabilitating the hospital. The university took 50% of the proposed projects’ costs that include increasing and maintaining wards and operating rooms, providing them with modern medical devices and equipment, and establishing a fund for supporting patients, as well as appealing community contribution to the initiative.
Medical Director of Ahmed Qassem Hospital, Dr. Haitham Majzoub Awad, praised UST initiative and said that the community partnership aims to help patients through providing free care services such as kidney transplantation, heart surgery for children, and catheterization for adults and children. He revealed that more than 70% of services were implemented for free, confirming the role of the partnership in providing opportunities for training, rehabilitation, contribution and assistance in treating patients, and the need for its continuation for longer periods, explaining that UST is one of the distinguished institutions in all aspects as improving general environment in hospitals is one of the most important pillars of humanitarian initiatives and providing assistance.
Director of Alumni Department, Dr. Yasser Youssef Abdullah, added that the initiative comes as one the university’s initiatives to support Ahmed Gasim Hospital. He added that environmental sanitation campaign represents the third day in the initiative for the month of November, revealing participation of graduates of the Faculty of Medicine, Head of Engineering Affairs Department, Engineer Ahmed Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Director of the Community Partnership Department, Dr. Amna Al Teyb. It is to be noted that UST has inaugurated the initiative inside its buildings for two days, with a charity party, bazaars, and an eye clinic for the benefit of the initiative and this convoy for the third day.
