Symposium title: The Revealing Giant (Abu El-Fan)

Speaker: Mr. Al-Sir Kaddour

Singing: Emad Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Atef Al-Samani

Mr. Al-Sir Kaddour started the seminar directly by expressing his happiness at being in the castle of education, knowledge and culture, which has become a beacon in Omdurman. Kaddour said that his happiness is multiplied because the talk is linked to one of the pioneers of art and innovation in the Sudanese song, the father of Sudanese art, the late Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Kashef. I have to establish the Sudanese Artists Syndicate, where Al-Kashef was a driving element for the establishment of this union, perhaps because he belongs to the working class and is a carpenter before he was an exhibition owner or a workshop owner. Enthusiastic about the establishment of the union since it began in the forties and then he struggled with his colleagues to develop the union of artists in the year 1952 AD and then the union in the month of May and it was at that time in agreement with the celebration of Labor Day and because the labor mentality controlled the detector, it was the cause of the last and first strike that may not have been repeated except in America in The nineties, when American cinema artists went on strike, and this was the second strike, as the first was led by Al-Kashfather, a quarrel between him and Metwally Eid, the director of the radio station. Both of them are influential men and have their role, and the strike of Sudanese artists was to refrain from singing on Sudanese radio because the artist was spending only two pounds in return for that, then the police followed them in another strike, where Al-Kashef saw that the amount was not enough, and we find that Al-Kashef’s strike affected two events, the first of which The emergence of a number of singers, as the radio wanted to respond to the great singers who refrained from performing their songs through them, so the artist Mahjoub Othman condemned his song: My heart desires them, and chose them with their desires, and my heart bought them It is one of the words of the poet Al-Tangari, composed by Ramadan Hassan, and then the song (Iftaan). The flowers are awake while you are asleep breezes caressed your hair The voice of the doves woke up Then Khaled Muhammad Ahmed, Al-Tayeb Mahran and others sang, and the strike was an opportunity for the radio to turn its books, search for new voices, and choose a number of people to join to fill the void. It was a benefit for art and artists, because it preserved a heritage of singing that could have evaporated if it weren’t for that strike that alerted the radio to preserve that heritage in its library. Professor Al-Sir Kaddour went on to talk about Al-Kashef and said that singing in the life of people is a creature linked to livelihood and worship and does not come out of the two, so singing and praise appeared as a result and the melody is more dominant than speech. The Sheikh of Sanaiya and the most influential and skilled of them in the short period he spent in the year 1935 AD until his death in 1969 AD, where al-Kashef lived in the nineteenth century and his family had come from Sinai and had previously visited his family’s home in Arish. It is said that his grandfathers came from Morocco to Alexandria and then crossed to Sinai at sea Al-Ahmar is a tonal area close to Sudan, where the study proved that the melody is associated with the seas, not the rivers. The Red Sea region is rich in melody, and the songs of Upper Egypt are close to Sudanese singing.
