Dean of Faculty of Dentistry at the Libyan University of Medical Sciences, Professor Al-Senussi Muhammad Taher, presented a scientific lecture at the University of Science and Technology within the framework of partnership between the two universities on (patient safety and medical history). Professor Al-Senussi warned against consequences of going over the patient’s medical history, saying that this would affect the correct medical decision-making and might put the patient at avoidable risks.
He pointed out that statistical studies of World Health Organization indicate that there is a patient out of ten in the United States of America who is exposed to medical errors, which causes them harm, and that this is contrary to the principle of medical ethics, saying that if the main patient problem is not addressed, we must not inflict moral or material harm on him. He also gave examples of some of the cases that he passed through, where bypassing patient’s history led to complications.
The visiting professor presented, at the beginning, a historical background about the Libyan University of Medical Sciences, such as history of its establishment and its most prominent stations. The lecture was at the Medical Development Hall in UST medical complex and honoured by Vice President of the University, Professor Abdel Raouf Al-Otaibi, Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Maysoon Ahmed Abdel-Qader, and a number of dentists and teaching staff who enriched discussion with their valuable commentaries.
